Documentation to support your petition must be submitted for review.
Exceptions to the course withdrawal deadline will be granted only in the most exceptional, documented extenuating circumstances (e.g., an absolute incapacity to meet the deadline because of a medical emergency).
Being unaware of the policy or deadline, changing your mind because of poor test results or unfulfilled class expectations, after the deadline, will not qualify as a policy exception.
This is a request for an exception. There should be no expectation that your petition will be approved. You are expected to continue attending classes.
The Committee on Academic Standing only reviews petitions during the fall and spring semesters.
Exceptions are only granted on rare occasions, and to warrant an exception, the appeal must contain evidence of extraordinary circumstances.
Examples:
- Ex. Death of a loved one can be accepted if:
- It occurred within the same semester as the class the student is requesting an exception from
- Has appropriate documentation showing dates of passing
- Death of a loved one will not be accepted if:
- It occurred far in advance from semester the student is requesting the exception from
- There is no documentation of the death
- Acceptable extenuating circumstances that plausibly prevented withdrawal by the published deadline (Physical or mental health illness, familial issues, legal matters, etc., and should be properly documented)
- Not acceptable circumstances (inability to learn from instructor’s teaching style, still adjusting to COVID, having a challenging time transitioning to college, illnesses that students were aware of prior to the semester, etc.)
