Form Instructions
This form is required when applying to either the Senate or Assembly internship programs for Spring 2026. You must complete this form once; if you are applying to both programs, you do not need to complete it a second time.
This form is important because it will allow the Minerva Center to work with your Advisor/s to determine the credits in this internship that might count toward your major, as well as to confirm that you would be able to make progress to your degree during this internship.
Important Information for your Academic Plan
Students in the NYS Legislative Internship programs enroll in 15 credits in either
U UNI 391: Senate
U UNI 392: Assembly
These courses are graded S/U at the completion of the program, based upon feedback and graded assignments in the program.
By default, these course credits count as General Electives. However, many majors will consider the NYS legislative internship programs for credit toward the major, depending upon the major and your prior courses. To determine how many credits you can receive toward your major, your advisor needs to review your degree audit and understand your plans.
If you are accepted to one of the programs, you must then meet with your advisor quickly to discuss your plans and your course audit. Given the tight timeline, it is better to do this in advance during the general course planning period for Spring term.
Additionally, some financial aid programs have requirements that can affect your course plans. We encourage you to discuss your potential internship with Student Financial Services to determine whether you have any particular responsibilities in order to remain in good standing with your financial aid program.
